Members of the Jefferson County Ministerial Alliance and volunteers from the community came together to deliver more than 700 baskets of food to community members in need on Friday. Donations to the annual event were down by 75 percent, said Randy Winn, one of the organizers, so more than 2,000 cans of food were purchased from Aldi. Donations came in from local schools and businesses such as Mt. Vernon Health Care. More than 90 volunteers from the Mt. Vernon Township High School student council, the MVTHS FFA, the Zadok Casey Middle School Beta Club and Corinthian Baptist Church showed up to help, though late deliveries of food hindered them a little. A group of seventh and eighth grade students from Dodds Grade School used their bus to take 30 baskets to residents of Rome Meadows.
