Unemployment at 10.6 percent in county

MT. VERNON — Jefferson County reported a 10.6 percent unemployment rate for October.

Unemployment rates by county were released this week, a month after October rates for the state, which were listed at 11 percent, were released. The national average for October was at 10.2 percent. The state three-month average is at 10.5 percent unemployment.

Jefferson County ranks at 44 out of 102 counties in Illinois for its unemployment rate. Last October, the county was had a 6.9 percent unemployment rate, and was ranked 49th in the state.
