MT. VERNON —
Three people are dead as the result of a two-vehicle collision north of Dix.

A pick-up truck driven by Flanagan collided with a four-door passenger vehicle carrying Wise and driver Hall. First responders used hydraulic extraction tools in order to be able to reach the people inside the vehicles.
Illinois Highway 37 was closed for several minutes while officials cleared the scene. The accident is still under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

A second serious accident occurred on Illinois Highway 37 just north of the first accident. Police and fire personnel responded to a report of a one-vehicle rollover accident near the intersection of Illinois Highway 37 and Rileyville Road.
First responders reported there was entrapment at this accident as well. When EMTs arrived to the scene, one person was out and walking around, but a second person was unconscious and breathing, entrapped in the vehicle.
