MT. VERNON —
An armed robber allegedly threatened employees and customers at the Community First Bank in Woodlawn on Tuesday.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified at about 1:48 p.m. Tuesday of the robbery, during which a male subject allegedly displayed a firearm. The man was reported to be between 5’5” and 5’8”, between 30 and 35 years old, mustached and somewhat unshaven, weighing about 160 pounds. He was reported to be wearing a camouflage coat with a hood, a red hat with a C on it, and possibly a blue shirt. He was carrying a red drawstring bag, officers stated.
Bank staff reported he traveled north bound on foot after leaving the bank, according to radio traffic.
Before 2 p.m., JCSO officers had begun to establish a perimeter around the bank in order to apprehend the individual. Officers were stationed near Woodlawn Grade School and Woodlawn Christian Church before searching the area.
JCSO personnel notified Woodlawn schools as to the incident and also sought video recordings of the exterior of the schools. Woodlawn schools were reported to be on security lock down at about 2:15 p.m., according to radio traffic.
