Staff Report
MT. VERNON — A man was taken to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of injuries he received after his moped hit the back of a van on Richview Road over the Interstate 57 overpass just after 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Information about the motorcycle driver’s name has not been made available at this time.
According to the Jefferson Fire Protection District, a material truck was having trouble on the road, which prompted the van behind it to slow down. When the van slowed down, the driver of the moped collided with the back of the van, which in turn caused the truck behind the moped to hit it.
The driver was described as having serious injuries when law enforcement arrived on the scene of the accident, however, JFPD has reported the driver’s injuries are not as serious as originally thought.
The Illinois State Police is handling the report on the incident, and no further information was immediately available at press time.
