MT. VERNON —
The city council approved a revolving loan for Buffalo Wild Wings on Potomac Boulevard.
Under terms of the loan, the restaurant will receive $400,000 in two installments, $200,000 on completion of the building and $200,000 on opening. In addition, the city has committed to building an access road on the north side of the property.
“We hope the road will support not only this project, but can cut through to North Davidson to support future development,” City Manager Ron Neibert said.
The seven year loan was approved at 3 percent interest, and according to co-owner Lonnie Griggs, the restaurant will employ 120 people — well above the revolving loan requirement of 31 full-time equivalent jobs.
The target date for opening of the restaurant is Dec. 1, Griggs said.
“We see a lot of potential in this town,” Griggs commented.
During Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor Mary Jane Chesley was absent, as was Councilwoman Mary Burgan. Chesley is attending the Illinois Emergency Management Agency conference, mayor pro tem David Wood said.
Due to the absences, the council held a first reading only on a petition to vacate a platted road at 4700 West Broadway by Roger Campbell. According to attorney Scott Quinn, the city “won’t miss” the road.
“It’s not recognizable as a road,” Quinn explained. “There are a couple of buildings which are either built on or just over the area of the recorded road. It was long assumed the road had been vacated, and the area was recently annexed into the city. We’d like to remove the uncertainty in regards to the structures already on the property.”
In other business, the council approved a bid from Woody’s Municipal Supply in the amount of $82,565.60 for a side arm mower for the public works department, and approved the temporary closings of several roadways.
Ninth Street will be closed from North Street to Casey and Jordan Street from 10th to Seventh Street from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 for the Southern Illinois Harvest Festival; North Old Union Lane will be closed between 9 a.m. and midnight on Sept. 18 for the Bob Troutt Memorial Foundation; and streets will be closed from 4:30 to 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 4 for the annual Christmas Parade.
