Jefferson County branch of NAACP and Good Samaritan Regional Health Center have once again joined forces to help one student realize their dream of becoming a health care professional.
Victoria Woodrow, director of marketing and public relations for Good Samaritan Regional Health Center said this is the second year the scholarship has been offered.
“The scholarship is intended to help a potential student interested in health care from a diverse community,” Woodrow said. “We would certainly be interested in inviting them back to work with us when they graduate.”
The scholarship is for $2,500 and is funded by Good Samaritan, Woodrow said.
Cleo Holt , NAACP education chairperson said in order to qualify for the scholarship, the student must be planning on going into health care.
“They have to be going into the related medical field and they have to tell why they are interested,” Holt said.
Applications will be available and have to be returned no later than Friday, Jan. 4. Holt said after the applications have been received, there will be a committee, which will go over the applications and will choose one recipient as the winner of the scholarship.
Those who are interested in applying have to be an individual who is currently enrolled in a health care related degree program or a high school student who plans on enrolling in a health care related degree program in the fall of 2013.
The scholarship will be awarded at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration program, Holt said.
Holt said the money is awarded to the student personally and they can choose what education related item or items they spend the money on, either for books, equipment or other items.
