MT. VERNON —
Three hundred vehicles went through a roadside sobriety checkpoint on Oct. 19, and 18 citations were issued.
Of the 18 citations, three were for driving under the influence of alcohol, two of which were for aggravated DUI. Four citations were for illegal transportation of alcohol and other citations were for no insurance, expired registration and improper lane usage.
Corporal Crews arrested Rachel Eller during the checkpoint for driving while license suspended and aggravated DUI, according to information from the Mt. Vernon Police Department. It was reported her license had been suspended for a DUI ticket which Crews had written on Eller a couple months ago. Eller allegedly blew a .256, but refused to blow at the jail. Her passenger, Stephanie Nunnery, was cited for illegal transportation of alcohol. Crews also cited Cari Steevens for no insurance.
Patrolman Huff arrested Robert Randall for DUI. Randall allegedly blew a .169 at the jail. He was also cited for DUI over .08, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage. Huff made a few other traffic stops and conducted field sobriety tests on two other drivers, who each passed.
Patrolman Purcell cited Larry Florey II for no insurance. He also cited Jessica Ridgeway for illegal transportation of alcohol.
Patrolman J. Johnson cited Stephanie Zienta and Sara Langa for illegal transportation of alcohol. He also cited Katy King and Mason Condondis for no insurance.
The checkpoints are conducted as a partnership between the Mission Possible Coalition, the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office.
“The checks will be ongoing in an effort to keep our roads safe,” information from MVPD and Mission Possible states. “We are also setting a standard for our children that it is not okay to drive while intoxicated. We want Jefferson County to be a safe place and save lives by getting out the message that if you drink and drive it is against the law and there will be consequences.”
