MT. VERNON — —
Toys for Kids of Jefferson County will host a craft fair from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Times Square Mall.
“We’ll have lots of local vendors who make homemade or handmade stuff,” said Jill Holloway of Toys for Kids of Jefferson County. “We’ve got vendors with jewelry, furniture, lots of primitive items, and somebody who makes knives. There’s one lady who’s making cupcakes.”
The precise location for the event is to be announced, Holloway said, but it will be held in the mall. More than 30 vendors have purchased booths to be a part of the event, she said.
The crafts will include both handmade items and some well-known companies like Mary Kay and Scentsy.
The event will be free to enter, Holloway said.
“This is the first time we’re doing this,” she said. “It’s a new idea, but I hope it works out. I have just recently started selling baskets and furniture on my own, and I thought it would be nice to put a craft fair together.”
Holloway said the organization expects to raise about $600 altogether from hosting the event.
“I hope people will come out and support all the local people and Toys for Kids at the same time,” she said.
Toys for Kids of Jefferson County is still seeking toy or monetary donations for children aged newborn to 14, but the group especially needs toys for seven- to 14-year-olds. About 450 kids have been registered so far, and more older children are registered than have been in the past, Holloway said.
“Typically, we get about 1,000 total,” she said. “We still have a little ways to go, they still have until Nov. 30. There are four more registration days.”
Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Toys for Kids headquarters at Times Square Mall; from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. The toy giveaway will be held Friday, Dec. 7, and Toys for Kids volunteers are asking that parents or guardians do not bring their children to pick up the toys.
Toys for Kids has placed Christmas trees with gift suggestions at the following locations: Subway east and west, My Favorite Toys at Times Square Mall, Shoe Sensation, Maurices and Big Lots. Donations may also be mailed to Curves.
