Iris McMillen, 89, of Dahlgren, died 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born July 7, 1923, in Hamilton County, daughter of Enos Jared and Iva (Learned) Shipley. She married Alva McMillen on June 12, 1940, in Charleston, Mo. and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1981.
She was the co-founder of McMillen Insurance Agency in 1949. She graduated in 1940, from Dahlgren High School. She was a member of Bell Rive Chapter 631 O.E.S. and served as secretary of Dahlgren schools from 1961 to 1967. She also served on the Dahlgren Library Board. She was a member of Dahlgren Community Chapel.
She is survived by son, David (wife Barbara) McMillen of Moon Township, Pa.; daughter, Janice (husband David) Wolfe of Dahlgren; grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Wolfe of Alabama, Neil (Holly) Wolfe of Michigan, Maretta (Kyle) of Delaware, Nancy (Mark) Bye of Colorado, Barbara (Donald) Gowler of Illinois, Angela (Michael) Jansen of Illinois, Laura (Tom) Reece of Illinois, Constance (William) Clarkson of Illinois, Daniel McMillen and Heather (Jim) Hoak; and great-grandchildren, David, Larissa and Zachary Wolfe of Alabama, Jared and Erica Wolfe of Michigan, Leah and Jordan Bye of Colorado, Eathan and Austin Gowler of Illinois, Colleen and Clarissa Rickabaugh of Illinois, Dean Reece of Illinois, Justin and Grace McMillen of Pennsylvania and Jase Hoak of Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Donald McMillen; parents; brother, Wayne Nelson Shipley; and grandson-in-law, Richard Rickabaugh.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Tony Phelps officiating. Interment will be at Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
