Five people recently sentenced

MT. VERNON —  Five individuals have recently been sentenced to serve time in the Illinois Department of Corrections in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

Marshall E. Fields, 31, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for becoming combative at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center on March 14 in the emergency room and making physical contact with a hospital employee. Fields was sentenced to two years in prison followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Bryant M. Harris, 39, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance and retail theft for being in possession of crack cocaine on May 11 during a traffic stop and for stealing various electronic items from Wal-Mart in Mt. Vernon on June 8, 2009. Harris was sentenced to three years in prison and one year of mandatory supervised release on both charges, and the sentences will run concurrently.

Anthony Pierce, 28, of Nason, pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful possession of methamphetamine for having methamphetamine during the execution of a search warrant on Nov. 29, 2009 and for being in possession of methamphetamine on May 24, 2010, while out of jail on bond. Pierce was sentenced to two years in prison on both counts, with the sentences running consecutively, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release.

Jarrod T. Robinson, 19, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to disarming a police officer and resisting a peace officer for attempting to disarm a Mt. Vernon Police Department officer on Dec. 21, 2011, while being questioned about a retail theft that had happened; and for getting into a physical fight with Mt. Vernon Police on June 26, causing injuries to a police officer during the incident. Robinson was sentenced to three years in prison followed by two years of mandatory supervised release.

Robin L. Smith, 39, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to domestic battery for making physical contact with a female on Nov. 5, 2011, at a time when he had a prior conviction for domestic battery. Smith was sentenced to three years in prison followed by four years of mandatory supervised release.

Mt. Vernon Police blocked a portion of North Ninth Street Wednesday morning about 11 a.m. after reports the brick facade of the apartment building at the corner of Ninth and Maple streets was falling to the ground. The bricks took out cable lines, awnings and were landing on the street.
