MT. VERNON —
Jefferson County is waiting on more than half a million dollars in tax receipts from the state.
The state has yet to send the four income tax payments for July through October, as well as more than $20,000 in local use tax, for a total of $512,297, according to information provided by Jefferson County Treasurer Dan Knox. He said the county should have received July and August’s allotments by now.
Knox said at the full Jefferson County Board meeting that the county could expect to receive at least one of the income tax payments by the end of the fiscal year, but that the remaining payments will trickle in slowly.
“They have until December to get paid up from the previous fiscal year,” he said.
Jefferson County is expected to receive $439,177 in tax receipts in October, which is slightly higher than last year’s amount due to the receipt of a personal property replacement tax payment of $40,257.
In quarter percent sales tax, the county received $104,290, about $10,000 less than the previous year; one percent sales tax, $37,897, which is about $2,000 less than last October; and in public safety tax, $86,800, about $5,000 less than October 2011. An income tax payment of $149,134 has been vouched but not received — that is about $3,000 higher than the previous year’s amount; local use tax of $20,796 is expected, which is about $2,000 more than October 2011’s payment.
Through October 2012, the county has received about $1.2 million in quarter percent sales tax; $485,239 in one percent sales tax; $1 million in public safety tax; $1.4 million in income tax; $244,950 in local use tax, and; 262,166 in personal property replacement tax, for a total of about $4.7 million in tax receipts this fiscal year.
Jefferson County’s fiscal year ends Nov. 30.
