MT. VERNON —
With Christmas fast approaching, finding gifts for family and friends is something on most people’s minds. A Specialty Fair at the Rolland W. Lewis Community building this Saturday is offering all kinds of items for that hard-to-buy-for person.
Wes Plummer, recreation coordinator for Mt. Vernon city parks, said the Specialty Fair has been held in Mt. Vernon for about nine years.
“We wanted an event for people to come and have their products on display and let the community have a spot where they could get all the items in one spot,” Plummer said.
He said the Specialty Fair is just an event that held for vendors, most of which are local, to showcase their wares for the Christmas shopping season. Vendors who will be present at the event include Avon, Thirty-One, Tastefully Simple and Mary Kay, among other organizations. He added there will be a variety of items available such as jewelry, make-up, body wraps, health items, cooking items and different candle groups.
“It’s just a chance, rather than having a party that you go to at someone’s house, you can go here to find things,” Plummer said.
Plummer said the timing of the fair allows orders to be placed and delivered before Christmas day.
“We get a pretty good turnout. People come to see what’s new,” he said. “It’s a good time of year and a good weekend to hold it for the ladies, since it’s the beginning of shotgun season.”
The Specialty Fair is Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to the public. For anyone interested in having a booth, Plummer said there are still spots open and to call office at 242-6890 for more information.
