MT. VERNON — —
A Jefferson County Justice Center correctional officer is facing charges of aggravated battery.
According to information from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Bradley Austin, 26, a correctional officer at the Justice Center, was taken into custody on the evening of Jan. 21, after the report of a battery.
The 911 call came into the dispatch office at about 10:26 p.m. from a 40-year-old man, who claimed he had been battered while standing in the roadway in the 1300 block of North Drivers Lane by Austin.
“Upon arrival of deputies, the investigation indicated the battery occurred as a result of a dispute concerning the reporting of a motor vehicle accident with alcohol possibly a factor in the dispute,” information from the sheriff’s office states. “Austin was later taken into custody for aggravated battery, process for incarceration and transported to Washington County Jail to be held.”
Bond was set at $15,000 and he has since posted bond and released.
Austin has been placed on suspension with pay while the incident is under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and pending formal charges by the Jefferson County State’s Attorney.
