MT. VERNON — Fr. John Iffert, Mt. Vernon Mayor Mary Jane Chesley and the St. Mary’s Church Building Committee celebrate the ribbon cutting at the new church building on Friday evening. Iffert said the first meeting held to discuss expansion of the church was in 1992. As part of the festivities, a prayer for Christian unity was held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a concert from the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts Choral Project.
