MT. VERNON —
Area financial institutions are on high alert after two credit unions have been robbed in as many days.
The Jefferson County Schools Credit Union, located at 3100 Broadway, was robbed at about 3 p.m. Monday afternoon; the GenFed Credit Union on South 42nd Street was robbed just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Police say the two robberies are not related.
“They are completely separate incidents,” Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Mendenall said. “In the first, we are looking for two white suspects. In the GenFed robbery, we are looking for a black suspect.”
The two suspects in the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union robbery are described as a white female of medium build, wearing a green jacket; and a white male wearing a dark blue jacket. The suspects were seen by employees running from the facility down the alley which runs parallel to Broadway.
The suspect in the GenFed robbery is described as a tall, thin black man who was wearing a black sock hat and a yellow sweater. Mendenall said the suspect entered the facility and asked for money, which employees gave him. He left the building on foot, heading east between GenFed and Mt. Vernon Fire Station 4.
The MVPD is continuing its investigations into both robberies.
