The Airport Board approved contracts to move forward with construction of the first hangar at Innovation Park.
Construction came in at $378,678, with construction management, architectural engineering and permitting bringing the total cost of the project to $419,987, according to Airport Manager Chris Collins.
“It's just shy of the $420,000 that was approved by the board for the project in January,” Collins said. “It's not a lot, but I'm excited that it came in under the budget.”
There is an alternate amount for finishing the office inside the hangar and painting off the hangar floor that would add $46,800 to the total cost. The additional work has not been approved at this time. Collins said the board could decide at a later date to finish the office.
In addition, Collins reported Tuesday the state and federal portion of the ramp and runway revitalization at Innovation Park is expected to go out for state bid during the April 26 letting. The projected cost of the revitalization is expected to be just over $585,000.
Previous parts of the revitalization project called for work on the pad directly in front of the existing maintenance building, but Collins said that portion would be left out at this time in an effort to keep the project at or below the state's budget. The ramp will be included in the state bid as an alternate. Collins said the alternate could be done if the bids come in low enough, but will probably be considered a future project at the airport.
Collins said the state has projected a start date on its revitalization project of July 8, and work would continue through mid-August.
In other business, the board approved a bid of $2,650 from Joe Draper for a surplus building that was once used as a maintenance structure at the facility. A second bid of $1,505 was received from Ron Clark.
