MT. VERNON — —
Area residents have the opportunity to enjoy a festive meal at the Mitchell home at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts.
“The home, which is the original home of John and Eleanor Mitchell, founders of Cedarhurst, is not open to the public except for the rare occasions when we host special events,” said Sarah Sledge, Cedarhurst director of communications. “This is one of those special events, and usually by the time the luncheon week rolls around, we are sold out.”
The annual Holiday Luncheon at the Mitchell will be held Dec. 4, 5, 6 and 7.
“All the meals, entree, salad and desserts are prepared by good, generous chefs from the area who prepare the meals, this is not a catered event,” Sledge explained, adding a committee, headed by Sarah Lou Bicknell, organizes the event. “We’re not talking about professional chefs, but people who are known by family and friends as being great cooks.”
Chefs who will be preparing the meals include Cindi Peterman, Cheryl Foley, Bicknell, Kim Wood, Debby Kroeschen, Jane Sanders, Mary Knoche, Ashley Hoffman, Linda Woodrome, Cheryl Settle, David Lister and Marion Erb.
The Dec. 4 menu will include pesto stuffed chicken breast, roasted vegetables, pumpkin rolls and dessert; Dec. 5, the menu will be pork tenderloin, salad, roll and dessert; Dec. 6, salmon quiche, salad, roll and dessert will be served; and Dec. 7, the menu will be chicken casserole with wild rice, salad, roll and a dessert.
Seating is limited, so those wishing to attend are asked to make reservations early. The deadline for reservations is Nov. 30.
“It’s basically like being in someone’s home,” Sledge said. “We do have one large room where we remove the furniture and set up tables, but it’s still a very intimate atmosphere, like being guests in Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell’s home.”
Cost of the meal is $20 per person and $18 for members of Cedarhurst. To make reservations, call 242-1236, ext. 237.
