Staff Report
MT. VERNON — Two people were taken to Crossroads Community Hospital after sustaining injuries following a two vehicle accident Wednesday morning.
According to a Mt. Vernon Police Department accident report, Stephen James, 65, of Mt. Vernon was driving a 2007 Ford truck westbound on Broadway when he rear-ended an armored van owned by Gates Security at 8:44 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Crownview. Reports indicate James told police his doctor had recently placed him on new medication which may have affected his driving, and that he misjudged the distance of the van and collided with it. James refused treatment at the scene, and his vehicle received major front end damage, information from police states.
The van, driven by Sidney Holdman, 35, of St. Louis, sustained damage to the back of the vehicle. Holdman and a passenger in the back of the security van were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
James was cited for driving too fast for conditions and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
