National 4-H Week

Mt. Vernon Mayor Mary Jane Chesley has proclaimed Oct. 5 through Oct. 11 as National 4-H Week in the city. Those present for the proclamation signing were Dan Spangler and Jamie Wheeler of the University of Illinois Extension Service and Jefferson County 4-H program. During the week, youth nationwide are leading efforts to solve problems in their communities and raise awareness of environmental issues. 4-H is the largest youth development organization in the nation with more than six million members. Jefferson County has more than 300 members and more than 40 volunteers.
