MT. VERNON — The city council will be presented with tax levies for the 2008-09 fiscal year tonight at its regular meeting.
According to the levy ordinance, the taxes will be upon all taxable property in the city limits for fiscal year May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009.
In the general corporate fund, there will be no raises in the levy, with $12.6 million budgeted being the same amount which is estimated to be raised during the year through taxes, license fees, permit fees, fines, penalties, rentals, sales taxes and other revenue received for general corporate purposes.
The budgeted amount for Parks and Recreation was listed at $924,047, but after subtracting the $767,723 which is expected to come from cash on hand and other estimated revenue, the levy will be $156,324; the emergency management agency budgeted amount is $11,876, with estimated revenue and cash on hand at $4,498, bringing the levy amount to $7,378; the Fire Pension Fund levy will be $730,295; the Police Pension Fund levy will be $521,659; the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and FICA — Social Security and Medicare — will be $600,609; and Special Service Area 1 levy will be $50,148.
In addition to discussing levies, the council will hear bid results for ammunition for the Mt. Vernon Police Department, and a consent to assign a Lake Miller lease. The lease was originally made to William W. and Evelyn Tolley to Norma Rightnowar who then assigned the lease to Linda Hale in 2005. Hale is assigning her lease to Jeff and Judy Osborn as joint tenants
The council will also be going into executive session to discuss the sale of real estate.
The council will be meeting at 7 p.m. at the Rolland Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
