School board candidates fill April ballot

MT. VERNON — The April ballot has been certified, and in addition to city seats, school board candidates will make up a large portion of the ballot.

For Mt. Vernon Township High School, there are three seats with a four year term that are available. The seats are currently held by Greg Backes, Ron Copenhaver and board president Daniel Hoffman. Hoffman has decided not to run for reelection, and the candidates are — in order of ballot placement — Cynthia D. Davis, Backes, Carl D. Miller, Kimberly Alvis, Copenhaver and Robin Dodd.

Four positions are up on the District 80 school board, with incumbents Steve Wallace and Craig Hedin to retain their seats, and Rob Dyer and Jeff Campbell running for the other two positions.

At Rome Grade School, there are four vacancies coming up on the board, with three people running. However, due to the bylaws of the board, only two of the candidates will be able to serve on the board.

“We will have four vacancies at the end of the term, but two of the three people running are from Rome Township,” Superintendent Dr. Dwain Baldridge explained. “In our district, only three people from any one congressional township can serve at any given time. We already have three people from Rome Township serving on the board and only one of them has decided not to run again. That means of the two [candidates] from Rome Township, only one of them can be elected to the board.”

Rome Grade School District includes Rome and portions of Mt. Vernon, Shiloh, Field and Grand Prairie townships.

The two Rome Township candidates for the school board are Terry D. Prosise and Benjamin Watts. Kelly Tinsley, who resides in Mt. Vernon Township, will also be running in the election. There are no incumbents running, and the board will still have two positions on the board open, Baldridge said.

There are four seats available on the Opdyke-Belle Rive Grade School Board, with one incumbent who has filed as a candidate as well as five new candidates. The four seats are currently held by Jon Oliger, Rynda Mason, Stacy Tate and Laura Michaud. Michaud recently resigned due to moving out of the district.

Tate is the sole incumbent, and others running for school board at Opdyke-Belle Rive are Lisa Hutchins Irvin, Stephanie Morgan, Claudia Elliott, Henry “Buster” Leeck and Donna Miss Houseworth.

Woodlawn Grade School has four positions open at the end of the term, which are held at this time by Paul Kirk, Lisa Hayes, Julie Klebba and Matt Fauss. Kirk and Hayes are the incumbents who are running for another term.

Other candidates for the Woodlawn Grade School Board are Kendra Rynski, Donna Spangler, Jeff Burkett, Sally Minks and Clarence Skurat.

Summersville Grade School has four positions opening, with Gayla Hall, David Jennings, Marcia Spiller and Terry Schaubert not running for reelection. The candidates for the positions are Chris Ashby, Stephanie Rios, Randy Steele, Rebecca Simpson and Shawn Smith.

Dodds Grade School has four seats up for election. Incumbents Larry Hatton, Joel Ham and Tressa Morgan are running for retention of their positions and Rodney Martin will be running for the open position. Todd Flota, whose term is up, will not be running for reelection.

Ina Grade School has four seats up for election, with incumbents Wayne Clinton, Tracy Harrington and Gwen Allen running for reelection and Marla Payne, Eric Wolf and Audrey Stowers will also be running for the open positions. Current board member Elic Adams will not be running for reelection.

McClellan Grade School has three positions open on the school board and one candidate — Greg Kueker.

Farrington Grade School has four seats available and five candidates. Candidates are incumbents B. Kent Donoho, Kristie DeJournett and Mike Ilbery and Angela Mason and Larry “Spud” Johnson. Jerry Halfacre has decided not to run for reelection.

Bluford Grade School has three positions up for election, which are currently held by Don Sneed, Carol Rudofski and John Maurer. Both Sneed and Rudofski are running for reelection, leaving one open seat to be filled.

Waltonville High School has four four-year term seats available and one two year unexpired term up for election. The current board members who hold those positions are Karen Wehrheim, Allen Patterson, Curtis Decker, Jerry Boldt and Mike Green. All candidates that have filed are running for the four-year terms, with Wehrheim running for reelection and candidates Stacy Kehrer and Charles McNealy running. “We will have two (four year) positions that will be open if no one does a write in campaign,” Superintendent Alan Estes said. “The remaining positions will have to be appointed.”

Webber Township High School Board has four positions open for the election and candidates are Tammy Rankin Harris, Darrin Laird, Teresa K. Drew, Travis Helm, Tammy Walker and Terry L. Krutsinger.

Waltonville also has four positions open with candidates Larry Webb Eastham, David John Walker, Sandra Frick, Randy Dees and Kirby Laur.

Bethel Grade School Board has one unexpired two year term with Lynn McKay running for the position; as well as three four-year term positions with candidates being Hope Carbonaro and Michael Myers — leaving one open four year seat.

Field Grade School also has an unexpired term, but no one has filed for the position. Candidates for the four full terms on the board are Chester Connaway, Michael Gibson, Jonathan Schnautz and Rhonda Adcock.

Grand Prairie has two two-year unexpired terms and no one has filed for those two positions. Four full term position candidates are Debra Meredith, Bradley Hails, Robert Schwarzlose and Chuck Lane
