All parents and infants, toddlers and pre-school children ages birth to 5 in Jefferson County are invited to a free Child Find Screening held this spring at various schools throughout the area. The following screenings will be held at:
Feb. 26 and 27 at Waltonville Grade School and pre-school screening and kindergarten registration at Free Will Baptist Church on Feb. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on Feb. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
March 3 at Rome Grade School and also for Grand Prairie Grade School, pre-school and kindergarten registration, 233 W. South St., Dix, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.;
March 4 at Ina Grade School, pre-school screening and kindergarten registration from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.;
Pre-school and kindergarten registration for Woodlawn Grade School at Woodlawn Christian Church, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 5 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on March 6;
Pre-school screening for Mt. Vernon District 80 at the Franklin E.C. Center, 500 Harrison St., from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. March 9, 11 and 13 and from 12:45 to 6:30 p.m. March 10 and 12;
Pre-school screening for Bluford Grade School at First Baptist Church, 400 N. Elm, Bluford, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
Pre-school screening and kindergarten registration at McClellan Grade School from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
Pre-school screening and kindergarten registration at Bethel Grade School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
Pre-school screening and kindergarten registration for Field and Farrington grade schools from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Field Grade School;
Pre-school screening and kindergarten registration for Dodds Grade School at the school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
Pre-school screening and kindergarten registration for Opdyke-Belle Rive District at Belle Rive Baptist Church, corner of 11th and Main, Belle Rive, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and
Pre-school screening at Summersville Grade School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Road work suspensions for weekend
MT. VERNON — Starting at 3 p.m. today, the Illinois Department of Transportation will be suspending all non-emergency road work for the holiday weekend and open up all lanes, where possible, until 12 a.m., May 28.

County unemployment rate drops
MT. VERNON — The county unemployment rate dropped seven tenths of a percentage point from March to April, coming in at 7.8 percent.
