MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Business and Professional Women’s Organization is teaming up with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce to host a candidates forum.
“We have hosted candidate’s forums for years,” Sherry Meadows, BPW legislative chairwoman, said. “The Chamber wanted to partner with us, and we’ll be working together on it for the first time this year.”
Meadows said the BPW holds the candidate forums prior to elections to better inform the voting public.
“We gather the candidates in one place, so the public can come and listen to each candidate’s platform,” Meadows said. “They can hear how the candidates respond to questions, and go to the polls to make an intelligent selection on election day.”
Also new this year is a pre-forum greet and meet, which will provide the public with an opportunity to meet the candidates.
“A lot of times, people don’t get the chance to actually meet and talk with candidates one-on-one,” Meadows said. “The greet and meet will give those who want to meet the candidates that chance.”
The forum will be held at 7 p.m. on March 17 at the Rolland Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park. The greet and meet will begin at 5 p.m.
