MT. VERNON —
It’s not just the houses of Jefferson County that are haunted. Watch out for the woods, too.
The Haunting at Horse Creek will once again offer hayrides into the haunted woods this year on Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27 to help raise money for Relay 4 Life of Jefferson County. The hosts are Rob and Stacy Hulbert, members of Team Life Savers which helps with the event.
Hayrides and guided tours through the woods begin at 7 p.m. and continue until about midnight, Rob Hulbert said. Tickets are $6 per person.
Flashlights are provided to each participated and trails are marked to ensure people stay in the trails.
Hulbert said to get to their property for the hayrides people should take Illinois 15 east toward Bluford and then north on Harmony Road. Take Harmony to Malecki Road and turn right. From there, follow the clearly placed signs, he said.
The hayride takes about 20 minutes and the tour takes another 30 minutes and ends at a pick-up point for the return trip.
Hulbert recommended that parents do not bring children under the age of 8 because of some of the “scares.”
Concessions and T-shirts saying “I survived the Haunting at Horse Creek” will be available.
This is the third year for the event and the goal is to have 800 people attend and raise about $6,000, Hulbert said. Both he and his wife are motivated to raise the money to help find a cure for cancer because of family members who have had the disease.
“We really expect this to be a big year for us,” Hulbert said of the fundraiser.
