Bids for a new park shelter came in over the total project costs budgeted.
"We will be reviewing the bids and make a determination on how to proceed," City Manager Ron Neibert said following the bid opening on Wednesday afternoon. "We could either go ahead and award a bid, or re-bid the project."
The bids are to replace the park shelter to the north of the Veterans Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park. The previous shelter had deteriorated to the point it had to be demolished and replaced.
At least 19 bid packets were picked up for the project, with four companies submitting their bids.
The apparent low bidder at this time is Lipps Construction of Mt. Vernon, with a bid of $96,000; Lake Contracting, Inc., of Addieville submitted a bid of $98,998; DePew and Owen Builders of Centralia submitted a bid of $112,988; and Shores Builders Centralia submitted a bid of $104,000.
According to Parks and Facilities Director George Bryant, the total project costs budgeted were $90,000. The bids do not include the electrical work, which will be bid separately.
Specifications for the park shelter are a steel frame structure with a metal roof that has dimensions of 30 foot by 40 foot. The completed shelter will also have water and electricity. Water service is already run to the shelter area, as well as electric.
Bryant said plans are to have the shelter completed and ready for public use in the latter part of May.
