MT. VERNON — A call for entries is going out for the Shrode Spring Art and Craft Competition and Exhibition.
The juried competition is open for all artists 18-years-old and older who live in Jefferson and surrounding Southern Illinois counties. The exhibition of the work submitted will be from Feb. 27 through May 9 in the Regenhart Gallery at the Shrode Art Center at Cedarhurst.
Media eligible for the competition are painting, drawing, printmaking, clay, fiber, mixed media, wood, fine jewelry and metal. A separate Photography Competition will be held in October, so no photographs will be accepted during the spring competition.

All work must be original work of the entrant done within the past three years and not previously shown in any previous art center competitions or exhibitions.
Awards will be presented for Best of Show with a monetary award of $200; Best of 2-Dimensional, with a monetary award of $100; Best of 3-Dimensional, with a monetary award of $100; and two honorable mention awards with a monetary award of $50 each. The judge for the competition this year is Debra Tayes, the Associate Curator of Fine Arts for the Illinois State Museum and curator of the Southern Illinois Art and Artisan Center art gallery in Whittington.
