Judge grants bond reduction for robbery suspect

Two of the three suspects in recent bank robberies in Mt. Vernon appeared in Jefferson Circuit Court this week.

Over the state’s objections, Judge David Overstreet granted a bond reduction for one of the suspects — 30-year-old Jessica S. Wilson of Waltonville.

Wilson, her husband Jeffrey, 41, and Amy Ramsey, 27, all of Waltonville, are suspects in the robberies of the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union on Dec. 10. Jeffrey Wilson is also accused of robbing the Community First Bank of the Heartland on Nov. 27.

Represented by local attorney Scott Quinn, the bond for Jessica Wilson was reduced from $500,000 to $50,000, on the condition that Wilson receive drug and alcohol rehabilitation from Gateway Foundation, based in Carbondale. According to Jefferson County State’s Attorney Doug Hoffman, Wilson will not be released until Gateway has a bed open, and she must post $5,000 cash before she is released.

No new court dates have been set for Jessica Wilson.

Co-defendant in the school credit union robbery, Amy Ramsey, now has a jury trial date of March 12 established. Ramsey will be back in court at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 19 for a pre-trial hearing and on March 5 for a jury pre-trial hearing.

Jessica Wilson and Ramsey have been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of financial institution robbery in connection with the credit union robbery.

Jeffrey Wilson has hired private counsel — attorney William Margulis of St. Louis. During his last court appearance, Wilson pleaded innocent to all charges. He is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 19.

Wilson had also requested a bond reduction while being represented by Assistant State’s Attorney Todd Ringel, although the court did not take action on the request after Wilson told the court he would be seeking private counsel. Margulis did not argue for the bond reduction during a Jan. 22 court appearance.

Wilson has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one charge of financial institution robbery for the credit union robbery and armed robbery, two counts of financial institution robbery and aggravated robbery in connection with the holdup of the Woodlawn bank. An undetermined amount of money was taken in both robberies.

Mt. Vernon Police blocked a portion of North Ninth Street Wednesday morning about 11 a.m. after reports the brick facade of the apartment building at the corner of Ninth and Maple streets was falling to the ground. The bricks took out cable lines, awnings and were landing on the street.
