Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Borowiak’s IGA gas station on Friday at about 8 p.m.
A light-skinned black male wearing a hooded sweatshirt robbed the gas station at gunpoint, then fled on foot, according to radio traffic.
The man possibly was seen getting into a white passenger car, and may have headed west or northbound after the robbery.
The armed robbery is one in a string of recent armed robberies in Jefferson County, though police have not said any of the incidents are thought to be related. Most recently, the Huck’s Convenience Store and gas station on South 10th Street was robbed at 3 a.m. Wednesday.
According to police logs, a black male entered the business in the 1800 block of South 10th Street and displayed a silver handgun. An undetermined amount of money was taken in the robbery, police said.
The suspect is described as being 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He was wearing an orange sweatshirt, covered by a black jacket. He also had gray pants with some type of lettering on the front. He was also wearing a red baseball cap.
Police said the suspect’s last known travel on foot was northwest of the business.
City police were involved in two recent burglaries at the GenFed Credit Union and the Jefferson County Schools Credit Union. Suspects in those burglaries were arrested and are currently in custody.
