MT. VERNON — —
The residents of Angels Cove and the New Life Family Shelter require some everyday items and the Medicine Shoppe is conducting a Need Drive to help get them what they need.
Eric Black, owner and pharmacist at the Medicine Shoppe, said this is the first year this has been done. He came up with the idea with the help with one of his employees daughters.
“We want to give to those in need,” he said.
Black has had quite a few interactions with the residents at Angels Cove, he said, so he was familiar with some of their needs. He contacted the organizations to get a list of everyday items the women use and need. He said he included the New Life Family Shelter in the drive since the organization is new and there are residents there who need extra assistance as well.
Medicine Shoppe employees began collecting items last week and will continue to collect items until the end of November. The items will then be delivered to both organizations during the first week of December and distributed among the women who live there.
Black said he has handed out flyers and has put advertisements on the radio, but is still working to get the word out about the Need Drive.
“We asked specifically what was needed,” Black said. “We didn’t want to fill their warehouse with items they don’t need.”
He said monetary donations would also be helpful and also said the Medicine Shoppe will match donations collected as well with a monetary donation of their own.
“Some of that will be estimated, but we want to do our part,” he said. “We are just trying to meet their needs.”
Items needed include: canned food of any variety, meat, cereal, coffee and tea, newborn clothing for children from birth to about six months old, diapers, bath towels, women’s hygienic products, such as razors, deodorant, etc., women’s hair products and household cleaning supplies, such as trash bags and laundry detergent.
Those who wish to make a donation may drop off items at the Medicine Shoppe, 2339 Broadway, or call 242-8776 for more information.
