MT. VERNON — Police reports have been released from the accident Saturday at the intersection of North Log Cabin and North Goshen Lanes that claimed the life of an 84-year-old Belle Rive woman.
Mildred F. Shelton died at St. Louis University Hospital after being airlifted from St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. Shelton sustained injuries in the accident after being thrown from the vehicle, according to officers at the scene. Shelton was not wearing a seat belt, according to police reports.
Lawrence Bragg, 68, of Belle Rive, was driving the vehicle in which Shelton was a passenger. According to police reports, Samuel A. Oliver, 18, of Belle Rive, was headed northbound on Log Cabin Lane, and was signaling to turn left. Oliver began to turn left and was struck by the vehicle carrying Shelton and Bragg.
Bragg was also transported to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital. Oliver was not injured.
The afternoon sun may have had a negative effect on visibility, but alcohol or drugs were not suspected as contributing factors to the accident, according to police reports.
