Christmas parade winners announced

MT. VERNON — The winners of the 2009 Downtown Mt. Vernon Christmas Parade have been announced.
The annual event, themed “A Christmas Story,” was held on Dec. 5.
Winners this year are:
Best Use of Theme: Southwest Christian Church;
Most Original: Dale and Connie Mays as The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who;
Best Performance: Casey Junior High Marching Band;
Best Lighting: Mike’s Auto Service 1967 Camaro; and
Youth Club Award: Jefferson County Girl Scouts.
Debbie Chiapelli, chairperson of the event, said the parade would not have been successful without the sponsorship of Mt. Vernon Net; the Mt. Vernon Women of the Elks for providing the hot chocolate; and Mt. Vernon Communications for “all the behind the scene set up.”
