MT. VERNON — The City Council is moving forward quickly to prepare all the necessary documents to approved two new tax increment finance districts, and Monday night the council will be presented with the TIF inducement resolutions which are required by state statute.
The two resolutions are to establish the city’s intention to create the TIF districts, with the first being the Route 15/I-57 Redevelopment Project Area TIF District; and the second district being the Industrial Park Conservation Area TIF. The two resolutions being presented Money designate that one TIF will be a redevelopment area and the other a conservation area, which specify the reasons the two areas quality under the TIF statute.
“The city council has examined the proposed area and circumstances and finds that at this time it is reasonable to believe that a tax increment financing plan can be adopted for said area and expenditures of development costs in furtherance of the plan and potential development should be allowable project costs under the plan, provided that this resolution is not a guarantee that any such plan will be adopted, but rather an expression of the sense of the city at this time,” the resolutions state.
In addition to the TIF resolutions, the council will be holding a first reading on an ordinance to approve a land purchase agreement with Intermountain Electronics. The company announced in July it would be building and opening a facility to be located in the Rolland Lewis Industrial Park.
Intermountain has corporate headquarters in Price, Utah, and is considered an industry expert in designing and manufacturing custom electrical distribution equipment for industries such as electric companies and factories with a focus on the mining industry.
In other business, the council:
Will hold a public hearing on establishing the maximum levy rate for Special Service Area No. 1, also known as the Downtown District;
Will hear bid results for a tree chipper and an aerator;
Will hear a request to seek bids for a forensic crime scene scope;
Hold a second reading on tax levy ordinances; and
Hold a first reading on an ordinance to amend the city salary ordinance to create the position of Assistant Finance Director, with a maximum salary of $79,606.
The levy hearing will be held at 6:45 p.m. tonight, and the regular city council meeting will follow at 7 p.m. in the Rolland Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
