MT. VERNON —
B. Maxine Shelton, 93, of Centralia and formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 10:19 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday, April 20, 1918, in Jefferson County, to Blaine and Myrtle (Estes) Highsmith.
She married Raymond G. Shelton on Aug. 29, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1989.
Maxine was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her nephews, Roger Wright and wife Anne of Indianapolis, Ron Wright and wife Joan of Centralia, Bob Scott and wife Mary of Bethalto, Steve Gowler and wife Teresa of Kentucky and Jerry Shelton and wife Billie; nieces, Jane Bailey and husband Don of Mt. Vernon, Sue Garner and husband Bud of Topeka, Kan., Connie Batey of Cape Coral, Fla., and Rhonda Greene and husband Gary of Michigan; a niece by marriage who cared for Maxine, Mary Jane Broeckling and husband James of Centralia; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Thiele and husband Kurt of Kentucky.
Her parents; her husband; her sister, Dorothy V. Wright; her brother, William Highsmith; and one nephew, Richard Wright; preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
