BONNIE —
State Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem) announced Tuesday that Jefferson, Marion and Clinton counties will be the recipients of more than $25.6 million in funding for road and bridge construction projects.
“I am pleased to announce more than $25 million in funding for road projects in the counties I represent,” Cavaletto said. “This road work will make our highways safer and provide badly needed, good paying jobs for Southern Illinois.”
The largest project will improve roads in Jefferson County, using more than half of the total road construction funds let in bidding by IDOT on April 23.
The project will consist of the milling, rubblizing, and resurfacing of the north and south bound lanes of I-57 in Jefferson County.
The project will resurface I-57 from the Franklin/Jefferson County line to one mile north of Bonnie.
Cavaletto said he received information from the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding construction projects taking place in his 107th District.
The total amount to be spent on road and bridge construction projects in Marion, Clinton and Jefferson counties will be $25,691,031.51, reports state.
Additional plans for road construction include resurfacing on Old U.S. Route 50 in Clinton Counties at two locations near Summerfield, Beckemeyer and Breese.
Resurfacing will also take place on Route 37 in Marion County from Madison Street in Salem to the Jefferson County line, as well as 8.26 miles of resurfacing on KinLou Road in Marion County from Route 37 in Kinmundy to the Clay County line.
