The final numbers are in and the Illinois State Police in District 13 handles more than 34,439 incidents during 2012.
District 13 covers Jefferson, Franklin, Williamson, Washington, Perry, Jackson and Randolph counties and is headquartered in DuQuoin.
The total incidents include requests for service from the public or other law enforcement agencies and incidents which were initiated by District 13 troopers.
Specifically, district troopers issued 7,107 speeding tickets; 19,117 written warnings, 15,846 total citations; 317 driving under the influence citations; 2,421 occupant restraint citations; 2,261 motor carrier safety inspections; 929 criminal arrests; and 3,613 motorist assist calls.
"In 2012, District 13 troopers handled 1,127 crashes," information from the Illinois State Police states. "Of those traffic crashes investigated by District 13, 40 were fatal crashes resulting in 46 fatalities. This is 11 fewer fatalities than in 2011."
According to ISP, the district troopers will focus on what is termed the "fatal four" driving behaviors most associated with fatal traffic crashes — DUI, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelts and distracted driving.
The ISP also urges motorists to remember what they call the three "Ps" of safe winter driving — prepare for the trip. protect yourself and prevent crashes on the road.
