MT. VERNON —
Early bird shopping will be available Friday, Sept. 10, for the 2010 Cedarhurst Craft Fair.
This is the 34th year for the annual craft fair, which will kick off with a special preview Sept. 10 from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
“It’s an early time to shop,” said Sarah Sledge, director of communications for Cedarhurst. “You don’t have as many people on the grounds; you get first selection of everything in the artists’ booths. Depending on the weather, it will be a nice place to come out and enjoy the evening and get to shop early before the rest of the thousands of people come to Cedarhurst.”
More than 125 artists from the Midwest and as far away as Georgia and Florida will be on hand from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10. About one-third of the artisans are new to the fair this year, according to information, and will be vying for awards totaling more than $8,000. The artists will be juried this year by Dick Codding, a wood artist from Cobden.
The artwork featured this year includes glass, jewelry, metal, fiber, wood, children’s toys, leather, photography and oil paintings, watercolor, ceramics and art from recycled objects, information states.
Following the sneak peak, Lee Logan and the Legendary Drifters will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. under the Entertainment Tent in front of the Mitchell Home.
Barbecue will be provided by Smokin’ T’s BBQ, and sodas and adult beverages will also be available for purchase.
Admission is $10 at the gate for the preview, which includes entertainment.
There is no parking on the grounds, but free parking will be available at the United Methodist Children’s Home on Sept. 10 only.
The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12, and fairgoers are encouraged to ride the shuttle from the Times Square Mall.
The 2010 Craft Fair Preview is sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. James Chow and Community First Bank of the Heartland.
