County residents who use their village post offices on a regular basis may see some changes in hours of operation in the near future.
Officials from the U.S. Postal Service have confirmed that several post offices in Jefferson County have been scheduled for “post plan implementation.” The dates of the implementation have not been established, however, not all of the hours of operation have been set.
“Whatever the hours are will be posted at those offices,” said Valerie Welsch, spokeswoman from the Gateway District of the U.S. Postal Service in St. Louis. “We do not know what hours will be scheduled for the individual offices, and we don’t know when new hours will go into effect.”
Welsch later informed the Register-News that hours have been scheduled for offices in Opdyke, Texico and Woodlawn.
Effective on Feb. 9, new hours at the Woodlawn facility will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday; Opdyke hours will be from 12:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, also effective on Feb. 9. Hours in Texico will be from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.
Hours of operation are scheduled to be released on Feb. 23 for the village of Bluford, on March 9 in Belle Rive and on March 23 for Ina, according to information furnished by Welsch. She added that hours at the Dix Post Office are not being reviewed by USP at this time.
Betty Schmitt, postmaster in relief at Waltonville, confirmed on Tuesday that the new hours of operation at that facility will be reduced to four hours, beginning in February. Hours of operation will be from 12:15 to 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Carolyn Brown, the rural carrier out of Waltonville, was originally scheduled to pick up mail at the Sesser Post Office, but that move has now been put on hold, according to Schmitt.
“Some of them [offices] may open the same number of hours per day, but the hours are changing,” Welsch confirmed.
