MT. VERNON — —
Two Wayne County residents have been arrested in connection with a road rage incident in Mt. Vernon early Tuesday night.
According to information from the Mt. Vernon Police Department, a woman was giving driving lessons to a juvenile neighbor shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Perkins Avenue.
The woman stopped in the roadway and motioned for the driver of a vehicle driving behind her to come around her vehicle. The couple then exited their vehicle and allegedly began to beat on the woman.
“It was a case of road rage,” Chief of Police Chris Mendenall said. “The woman was injured pretty seriously with lacerations to the head and she has a collapsed lung due to being kicked.”
The woman was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Health Center for treatment of her injuries. Two juveniles inside the van at the time of the incident were not injured.
Officers of the MVPD were able to make contact with Wayne County officials, who were familiar with the couple and arrested Gordon A. Yarbor, 42, and Rhonda S. Johnson, 39, both of Wayne City.
Yarbor and Johnson have been charged with mob action and aggravated battery. They were being held late Wednesday afternoon in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set.
