The Jefferson County Historical Society will be hosting two more events this month for the public.
Local historians Sid Milliner and Bob Pemberton will be presenting “The Tragic Life of the Cherokee Indian” at the Jefferson County Historical Village 3 p.m. Feb. 16.
The two have become well-known locally for their presentations, which use the interview-style to portray local characters from history.
In “The Tragic Life of the Cherokee Indian,” Pemberton will interview Milliner in his portrayal of Richard Taylor, who led the 11th detachment of the Cherokees on the Trail of Tears.
The program will feature direct quotes from the journal of the Rev. Daniel S. Butrick, who went with Taylor's group on the journey.
The free program is open to the public.
Then on Feb. 19, the Jefferson County Historical Society Monthly Chat Session will be held 1 p.m. at the Sweinfurth Museum on the grounds of the Jefferson County Historical Village, 1411 N. 27 St.
Each month during the winter season, the Jefferson County Historical Society hosts chat sessions on different topics, invites the public to bring materials or stories and share information on the topic. The topic for February is “Fairs and Carnivals.”
Participants can bring photos, artifacts, clippings or other items to show and tell about, or can just come or listen.
The Chat Sessions are held the third Tuesday of the month, and anyone is invited to attend. Membership in the Jefferson County Historical Society is not required, and those attending don't have to be natives of Jefferson County. Refreshments will be served.
