Byron and Mary Vance of Bluford will celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary Sept. 23, 2012. The couple was married by the late the Rev. Sam McCoy at his home in Mt. Vernon. Their attendants were Byron’s brother-in-law and sister, Tommy and Pearl (Vance) Green.
Byron is the son of the late Barney and Lena (Butler) Vance. Mary is the daughter of the late Lloyd “Sug” and Grace (Merritt) Marlow.
They are the parents of four children, Jerry Vance (Nancy), Norman Vance (Mary Jo), Janeen (Vance) Belmont, Steve Vance (deceased) and daughter-in-law, Peggy (Lane) Vance.
They have nine grandchildren, Chad Vance (Janice), Heather Vance (deceased), Leanne (Vance) Drew and husband Justin, Michael Belmont (Kaysie), Alisha (Vance) Griffaw and husband Russell, Amanda (Vance) Korte and husband Dustin.
They also have 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter and Clayton Drew; Caleb and Olivia Belmont; Cody Tyler, Cayden, Breanna and Hunter Belmont; Konnar Belmont (deceased); and Carson Korte; and two step great-grandchildren, Zhayne Belmont and Jonathan Green (Megan).
Byron and Mary have lived their entire married life in Bluford. To his knowledge, Byron is the oldest person that was born in Bluford, raised in Bluford and has lived his entire life in Bluford, earning him the honorary title of “Mr. Bluford.” Byron has written a book entitled, “A Memory Journey Around Bluford” “Fifty Feet in 85 Years and Looking Back.” He has a few copies left. There will not be a second printing as he is devoting all of his spare time to another project.
No special plans have been made due to health reasons. They would appreciate cards, however. Cards can be mailed to 206 N. Elm St., Bluford IL 62814. Mary will also be celebrating her birthday on the same date.
