MT. VERNON —
Imogene “Gene” Johnson, 90, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Sunday, Jan. 1, 1922, in Jefferson County, to Chancey and Beulah (McLaughlin) Piper.
She married Muriel C. Johnson on Dec. 31, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky., and he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1987.
Gene was a homemaker and member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #314 in Hobart, Ind.
She is survived by two nieces, Pat Karin Piper of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joyce Ann Litvinas of Centralia; and a special niece, Leann Ford of Mt. Vernon.
Her parents, her husband and one brother, Edwin M. Piper, preceded her in death.
Funeral service wil be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
