MT. VERNON —
Deacon James Moore Jr., 65, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 7:58 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Dec. 29, 1946, in Indianola, Miss., the son of James Moore Sr. and Bertha (Word). He married Joann Atterberry on Feb. 19, 1982, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
James was a member and served as a deacon of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joann of Mt. Vernon; five sons, James Moore III of Mt. Vernon, Quintez Moore and wife Kajuana and Jacquez Moore both of Indianapolis, Antwione Atterberry and wife Shantae Robinson of St. Robert, Mo., and Leroy Atterberry of Mt. Vernon; step mother, Bertha Moore; siblings, Grover Harper, Josephine Holman, James Moore Jr., Rassberry Moore, Diane Rogers, Bertha Moore, Burnice Moore, Maurice Moore, Martin Moore, Perry Moore, Howard Moore, Johnny Austin, Robert Austin, Larry Austin, Tonya Austin, Clara Thorton and Edward Word; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shantae Haggard; and three brothers, Ike, Oliver and Dwight Moore.
Graveside funeral services will be held noon Friday at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn with Associate Pastor James Seals officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to cemetery on Friday.
