MT. VERNON — Dorothy Marie Sechrest, 83, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born June 7, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, to Henry and Lula Mae (Harpole) Gossage.

She married Bobbie Malcolm Sechrest on Aug. 28, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 2008.

Dorothy was a homemaker and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Jeff Sechrest of Mt. Vernon, Bobby Sechrest and wife Rebecca of Dana, David Sechrest and wife Susan of Dana, and Donald Sechrest and wife Robin of Dana; a daughter, Doris Petri and husband Ritchie of Pontiac; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her parents; her husband; one daughter, Peggy Palmer; one son, Joel Sechrest; one sister, Doris Davis; and one brother in infancy preceded her in death.

In honor of her request, she will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Bethel Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
