MT. VERNON —
Kenneth Estelle Keele, 91, of the Greentree Residential Home in Mt. Vernon and formerly of Texico, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Oct. 29, 2012.
Kenneth was born Aug. 12, 1921, to Merley and Maudie Donoho Keele in Jefferson County. Kenneth was married to his childhood sweetheart, Louise Ayes, for 66 years. They were married on Sept. 29, 1943, in Jefferson County and she preceded him in death in 2010.
Kenneth is survived by his three children, Leon Keele and wife Carol of Texico, Elaine Keele and companion Dean Newcomb of Mt. Vernon and Tom Keele of Texico; four grandchildren, Alan Keele and wife Lana, Pamela Maxey and husband Jason all of Texico, Tressa Furlow and husband Donnie of Christopher and Jason Keele of Mt. Vernon; five stepgrandchildren, Michael Randall and wife Rebecca of Beaumont, Calif., Susan Bundy and husband Jeff of Dix, John Randle and wife Keri of Salem, Ronald Randall and companion Armendy of Texico and Curtis Randall and wife Stephanie of Gloucester, Va.; five great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Keele.
Kenneth and Louise lived and farmed in Jefferson County for over 60 years. Kenneth proudly served his country during World War II. Cpl. Keele was a member of the 588th Air Engineer Squadron, 76th Air Service Group, Guam.
He was a member of the Wells Chapel Baptist Church but attended Union Chapel Methodist Church with his family for many years. Kenneth loved his family, farming, camping and telling stories of his life experiences.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Osborn funeral Home in Dix. Marty Mills will officiate and burial will follow at the Union Chapel Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American legion post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Friends may call at the Osborne Funeral Home in Dix on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Union Chapel Cemetery or the Good Samaritan Hospice and received at the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, IL 62830.
