MT. VERNON —
Freda A. Kone, 81, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born in Hamilton County on Friday, Aug. 17, 1928, a daughter of Albert and Daisy (O'Bryan) Davis. She married Frank Kone on May 21, 1955, in McLeansboro.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with J. Howard Kraps and Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kone is survived by her husband, Frank Kone of Mt. Vernon; a son, Keith Kone of Macon, Ga.; two brothers, Wilburn Albert Davis and wife Mary Jo of Barrington and Dr. Francis O’Bryan Davis and wife Sandra of Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Alice Elizabeth Deen of Broughton and Janet Sue Cottingham and husband Claris of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Freda was an election judge for Shiloh 3 Township for many years, was a 4-H advisor, a charter member of Southern Illinois Arts & Crafts, a member of the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years, the Young At Heart Chapter of the Jefferson County Home Extension, the Road Runners Camping Club, the Jefferson County Historical Society and was a den mother for Boy Scouts of America Troop 104. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary or to National Psoriasis Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
