MT. VERNON —
Charles Carroll Walker, Sr., 79, of Dix, passed away at 3:23 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 23, 1933, the son of Herman and Nora (Timmons) Walker. On Feb. 3, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., he married the love of his life, Jo Alice Rector, and she survives him in Dix.
Mr. Walker was a farmer for many years and retired from Dowzer Electric after 23 years. He was a lifelong member of New Hope “Webb” Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon for 29 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends, and especially looked forward to having a full house for dinner every Sunday after church.
In addition to his wife, Jo Alice Walker, he is survived by four children, Carolyn Montague and husband Dean of Dix, Charles C. Walker and wife Vicki of Woodlawn, Roger Walker and wife Vickie of Woodlawn, and Marsha Upton and husband Darrell of Walnut Hill; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Montague, Heather Jones and husband Steve, Brad Montague, Callie Foutch and husband Adam, Amy Walker and fiancee Tim Nesbitt, Lacey Skinner and husband Chad, Jason Upton, Chris Upton, Cory Upton and wife Amber, Joey Upton, and Cody Upton; 10 great grandchildren; four sisters, Geneva McLemore and husband Chuck of California, Wilma Atheline King of Centralia, Ruth Allen of Georgia, and Vera Piercy and husband Jerry of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Thelma Nelson; and one nephew, Michael Tate.
Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Allen Smith and Rick Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Hope “Webb” Missionary Baptist Church, and will be received at the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830.
