Thelma A. Graddy, 72, of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1939, in Hamilton County, the daughter of James Roy and Eva Faye (Broyles) Smith. She married Roger Graddy on July 19, 1957, at Braden Valley General Baptist Church in Hamilton County; he survives in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Brent Graddy and wife Kim of St. Louis; two daughters, Pam Faulkenberg and husband Jeff of Troy and Tammy Davis and husband Stan of St. Peters, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Jordan, Devan and Dylan Faulkenberg, Bria and Brittani Davis and Grace and Brock Graddy; a brother, the Rev. Donald Smith and wife Betty of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Lorene Dial and husband William “Jill” of McLeansboro; a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Graddy and wife Sandy of Mt. Vernon; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Miltenberger and husband Hank of Covington, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Helen Smith; a grandson, Brennan Faulkenberg; and a niece, Brenda Barker.
Thelma was a homemaker and assisted with the family business, State Beauty Supply in Mt. Vernon and was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. In honor of her request, she will be cremated following the funeral services. Her ashes will be inurned at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn at a later date.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home.
