MT. VERNON —
Jackie Owen Wilson, 67, of Waltonville, passed away at 2:45 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at his home.
Jack was born Nov. 3, 1944 in Wayne County, the son of Mitchell Wilson and Nola (Warren). He first married Sharon Kay Phillips and they divorced and later married Debra Wilson and they divorced also.
Jack worked at the car shops, Freeman Coal #3, then later owned and operated Waltonville Marathon, Jefferson County Carbon, D&J Trucking and D&J Tarp Shop. Jack played the banjo with Ernie Rynes and the “Country Cousins.” He also played with the band “Big Muddy Boys,” a bluegrass band. Jack graduated from Webber Township High School in Bluford in 1962. He was also a member of the U.M.W.A.
He is survived by his mother, Nola Ramsey of Mt. Vernon; sons, Bradley Allen Wilson, Brian Lee Wilson of Waltonville, Jason Stein (Melissa) of Johnston City; daughter, Tam (Chance) Thurman of Ozark, Mo.; grandchildren, Chad Wilson, Logan Stein, Averia Stein, Carter Thurman and Kenzie Thurman; step-grandchildren, Ian Conner Perry and Kyle Reese Mitchell; brothers, Larry Wilson of Mt. Vernon and Jerry Wilson (Kay) of Texas; special friends, Anita Robinson, Nancy Benjamin, Larry and Sandra Powell, Randy Cameron, Randy Smith, Jere Shaw, Andy Affrunti and many others; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Mitchell Wilson.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29, at Garrison Temple Cemetery in Wayne City with Pastor Don Evans officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Monday.
