James Kevin Phelps, 47, of Dix, died at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his aunt's home in Boyd, with his family and friends by his side. Due to failing health Kevin lived with his mother in Fenton, Mo.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1965, in Mt. Vernon, the son of James "Jim" Phelps and Darinda Beckham.
Mr. Phelps graduated from Rome Grade School and Woodlawn High School. He was an over the road truck driver for several years and he worked with his father in the family farm for most of his life. He enjoyed going to ball games and watching his nieces and nephews play sports. Kevin was an avid sports fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his mother, Kevin is survived by his stepmother, Donna Johnson; three sisters, Rhonda Crawford and husband Danny of Dix, Tina Mays and husband Gerald of Mt. Vernon and Tonya Benjamin and husband Aaron of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Terry Phelps and special friend Ramona Huntman of Dix and Chris Creps and wife Violet of Woodlawn; nieces, Makayla Crawford, Shelby Phelps, Amber Upton, Shannon Creps, Erica Benjamin and Brittney Hopper; nephews, Tyler Crawford, Blake Phelps, Kylar Jarad Phelps, James Creps, Briar Creps, Jacob Creps and Cole Benjamin; great-nephew, Bryson Upton; great-nephew on the way, Khayson Clifford Jourdan (Hopper); and many aunts and uncles.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father and grandparents on both sides.
